The Redding Police Department is proud to announce the introduction of their Child Safety Seat Program. The Redding Police Department’s Child Passenger Safety Seat Unit’s goal is to make the roadways of Redding safer for our younger passengers by educating the public on Child Passenger Safety and assisting with the proper installation of Child Safety Seats.
According to the Journal of Pediatrics, 95% of infant car seats have at least one major installation error*. Further, the latest research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows 59% of all car seats are not installed correctly^. These misuses of Child Safety Seats may be reduced through the assistance and guidance of a Certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician.
The Redding Police Department provides a free service by appointment only for residents of Redding by inspecting Child Safety Seats for proper installation. Certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technicians from the department will assist with installing safety seats and answering questions. One weekday each month Officers will be available for car seat inspections.
Currently, the Redding Police Department is scheduling car seat by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, residents may contact Sergeant Peter Quinn at 203-938-3400 or pquinn@rpdct.us. When arriving for your appointment please bring the instruction manual for the car seat as well as the vehicle.
